Precious Ann was born July 23, 2004. She had a very rough start in life,
she was an only puppy, born from Champion Parents. She was born weighing
less that 2 oz. When I saw her I knew we were in trouble. I tied her umbilical
cord and handed her to her mom. I knew right away we had a fight on our
hands to keep her alive. The mother proceeded to clean her and then chewed
the cord even shorter and Precious Ann started to bleed out. I grabbed
her up and retied the cord. She was even weaker now because a pup that
size doesn't have much blood to begin with. The next 3 wks were sleepless,
she had to be hand feed every 2 hours around the clock as she did not have
the strength to nurse. After she regained her strength we let her nurse
her Mom. for the next year we still had scary times with her as she would
stop eating and become hypoglycemic. At least twice she was closer to death
than life. Finally she turned the corner and now seems to be a healthy
happy 2 lb papillon, however we don't know what tomarrow will bring.
Although she is cute as she can be, this is a good lesson as to why reputable
breeders do not breed for tiny paps. Unfortunately it happens periodically
but never to us on purpose. We Love her dearly, and she will remain with
us hopefully until she is old and toothless.
